original vintage real photo - no reprint!
date: ~ 1920s/1930s
photo shows the belgian four master ' L'AVENIR ', built in 1908 and used by the belgian merchant navy as a training sailing ship. at the beginning of the 1930s the sailing ship was sold to shipowner gustaf erikson who used it as a transport boat. in 1937 the german HAPAG bought the ship, overhauled it and named it ' ADMIRAL KARPFANGER '. HAPAG wanted to use the sailing ship as a school-ship for officer cadets. in 1938 the ship dissappeared, most likely near cape hoorn and was never found again....
