about the a.c.l.: 'the creation of the royal institute of artistic heritage dates back to 1934: jean capart creates at the royal museums of art and history a physicochemical research laboratory that he associates with the belgian documentation service. a decree of the regent founded, on june 24, 1948, the central archives of national art and the central laboratory of museums of belgium (acl). a few years later, by the royal decree of august 27, 1957, the acl became one of the ten national scientific institutions and received the name of royal institute for the artistic heritage (irpa)
