historically significant antique postcard from 1913. This piece combines a stunning Native American portrait motif with a highly collectible early US commemorative stamp and a clear transatlantic postal history.
Front Side: Features a stylized, romanticized profile portrait of a young Native American woman in full feather headdress ("Indian Maiden"), printed by the renowned Schlesinger Brothers, New York.
Back Side: Fully postally used and dated March 10, 1913. It contains a brief greeting handwritten in neat German script by a traveler or immigrant named Arthur Schilling, sent from Hoboken, New Jersey, to a family in Thale (Harz Mountains), Germany.
Postal History & Stamp: The card features a clear, crisp Hoboken, N.J. machine cancellation mark (Mar 11, 1913). It is franked with a highly collectible 2-Cent Red Panama-Pacific Exposition Commemorative Stamp (1913 Series), depicting the "Pedro Miguel Locks" of the Panama Canal. This stamp was issued just two months prior to the mailing date!
