original albumen print cabinet card photo - no reprint!
original antique cabinet card photograph showing two young victorian boys, one seated on a toy rocking horse holding the reins, the other standing beside it steadying the horse, both dressed in matching sailor style jackets, with two straw hats resting on the floor in front.
no photographer's mark or studio name present on front or back, mount is a plain bright yellow card typical of the 1880s-1890s with no printed text on the reverse.
please note condition carefully before buying: the photographic print layer has separated and torn away from the mount at the edges, most noticeably along the left side and lower portion. beneath this torn upper layer, a second underlying image is clearly visible, showing distinct contours and shading consistent with a separate photograph, possibly an outdoor or landscape scene, mounted underneath. the exact subject of this hidden lower image cannot be fully determined without further conservation work, but its presence adds an interesting layer of history and mystery to the piece.
this is genuine period wear, not intentional alteration. the visible upper image itself remains clear and the composition, with its charming toy horse and hat props, is still fully visible and appealing. sold as is, please review all photos closely as they form part of the description and reflect the true condition of the piece.
size: ~ 16.4 x 10.5 cm (1 cm ~ 0.39 inch)
