description: for sale is a historically fascinating and fully documented photographic postcard (rppc) from the first world war, dated september 28, 1915.

a crisp group photograph of german infantrymen (imperial army) in full field uniform with spiked helmets. the soldiers are posing in front of an occupied french cooperative bakery bearing the inscription "boulangerie co-operative la fraternelle." a particularly rare detail: the name of the alsatian master baker/manager, "matter," is visible on the facade at the right edge of the image. the photograph was taken in the saint-quentin area (aisne department) in the rear area of ​​the german 7th army.

back of postcard: field post from a soldier of the pioneer company (section 52, infantry regiment 49) to private e. hünkirchen of reserve infantry regiment no. 240 (iii battalion, 12th company). the text, written in easily legible german cursive script, contains a rare mention of the murderous mine warfare on the western front: “all is well in juvincourt. my mine is still mobile and operational.” historical significance: an outstanding document that precisely depicts the journey of a unit from the rear area (saint-quentin) to the front line (mine warfare on chemin des dames / juvincourt-et-damary) in september 1915. highly interesting for collectors of militaria, regional french postal history (aisne), and social and cooperative history.
