original vintage postcard - no reprint!
fascinating historical postcard from malta, dated september 30, 1919, showing a military parade (trooping the colours) at palace square (now st. george's square) in front of the main guard building in valletta.
top left features a red 1d king george v stamp.
the highlight of this item is the complete and legible handwritten back text by collector edgar grech to a fellow collector, miquel vila, in palma de mallorca, balearic islands.
he writes: "dear mr. vila, thanks awfully for your very welcome answer to mine, never mind! we can understand each other completely! yes! could you send me 12 cards like the type you sent – though all different – and with different stamps of small value from the balearics.
i shall be very, very pleased and will send you 12 different in return with the two only war tax stamps we have got here in malta. thanking you in anticipation and awaiting your reply. believe me yours very truly, edgar grech."
a wonderful piece of social history and philatelic exchange right after world war i
