vintage printed postcard from the famous series Reed's Indian Pictures, published in St. Paul, Minnesota. This piece features an incredible portrait combined with a compelling transatlantic postal history from the early years of World War II.
Front Side: Features the powerful profile portrait of "Long John", an Ojibway (Chippewa) Indian, captured by the legendary Western photographer Roland W. Reed (1864-1934).
Back Side: Fully postally used and postmarked September 17, 1941, from Michigan. It contains a holiday greeting written in German by "Lottie & Otto" sent to a Master Hairdresser (Friseurmeister) Albert Schweikert in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.
Postal History & Stamps: The card is franked with three US stamps to meet the international postcard rate: two 1-Cent Nathan Hale stamps and one 2-Cent John Adams stamp from the famous 1938 Presidential Series ("Prexies").
