original albumen print cabinet card photo - no reprint!
cabinet card photos have been first introduced in 1860 and slowly replaced the smaller carte de visite photos...
authentic and highly striking original antique cabinet card photograph from the late 19th or early 20th century.
this historic ethnographic portrait captures two north african men likely bedouin or berber from algeria or tunisia in traditional attire. one man sits on the ground wearing a hooded burnous or djellaba garment while looking intently to the side. the second older man stands beside him leaning against a wall with a wooden walking stick or staff wearing a traditional turban headwrap and a light colored tunic.
the image provides a fascinating and crisp glimpse into historical north african culture and early orientalist photography. the listing includes the unprinted blank reverse side which shows the natural aging process of the thick historic cardboard mount with minor handling patina, small spots, and a faint pencil inscription at the bottom edge.
