spectacular and very large original historical military glass plate positive measuring approximately 18 x 13 cm. this rare half plate master record is an official german army aerial reconnaissance photograph from world war i, capturing a destroyed bridge over the styr river in ukraine.
the high-resolution aerial view is fully documented with original contemporary military inscriptions scratched into the upper edge emulsion, reading: 8. fl. 47. 6873. 8.11.17. 10 30-12 45 n. styrbrücke b. polonka h. 50 br. 25. the lower right corner features an official embedded identification label stating: styrbrücke b. polonka.
the image taken from an aircraft of flieger-abteilung 47 on november 8, 1917, shows the structural details of a heavy steel truss railway or road bridge that was severely sabotaged and partially collapsed into the river bed. early military temporary wooden bridge structures are visible alongside the collapsed steel structure.
unlike a negative, this is a high-contrast glass positive diapositive which displays the final black and white image directly when held against light. the plate is in very good vintage condition with exceptional sharpness and a fully intact emulsion. a supreme museum-grade archival centerpiece for collectors of WWI aerial photography, eastern front military history, tactical mapping, and structural combat damage
size: ~ 18 x 13 cm (1 cm ~ 0.39 inch)
