a magnificent ethnographical scene titled "soerabaia, chineesche slotenmaker" (chinese locksmith).

front: it showcases a master chinese craftsman sitting on the ground with his tools, a rack of handcrafted skeleton keys, and a portable forge.
reverse: clearly marked on the left margin: "uitgave: j. m. chs. nijland, societeitstraat, soerabaia". nijland was one of the most famous publishers of high-quality local view cards in early 20th-century java, active in this style during the 1910s.
