original vintage postcard - no reprint!
postcard depicts local uzbek merchants inside a textile shop in kokand (present-day uzbekistan, formerly part of russian turkestan). the printed russian caption reads: "кокандъ. продажа мѣстныхъ издѣлій изъ хлопка (мата)" which translates to "kokand. sale of local cotton products (mata)". mata refers to the traditional hand-woven central asian cotton fabric. the merchants are wearing traditional attire, including quilted chapan coats and turbans, surrounded by massive stacks of textiles.
