striking early first world war color illustration postcard titled "in den schützengräben bei nacht" (in the trenches at night). the image depicts german soldiers fully equipped with pickelhauben and gear, tightly packed inside a trench line during a nighttime operation under a full moon. sharp, dramatic beams from military searchlights slice across the night sky and battlefield.
the reverse side features a detailed handwritten feldpost message from a soldier serving in the "füsilier-regiment fürst karl anton von hohenzollern (hohenzollern) nr. 40, 12. kompagnie", dated september 29, 1915. it was sent to konstanz, baden.
the postal markings are exceptional, featuring a sharp circular feldpost stamp "k. d. feldpostexped. der 28. inf. div." dated 1 october 1915. it also bears a distinct, violet rectangular military censor stamp: "geprüft / überwachungsstelle / konstanz / xiv. armeekorps".
