the crisp, high-contrast photograph shows a rugged crew of eight construction workers / ground laborers posing outdoors with their heavy tools, including spades and long iron pry bars. the men are wearing traditional working-class attire of the era, including matching dark sailor-style work caps (prinz-heinrich-mützen) and traditional wide-brimmed felt hats worn by the foremen. a large historic building (possibly a barracks, factory, or school) and a hilly/mountainous landscape are visible in the background.
